As if Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis couldn’t be any crazier, he just rewarded kicker Sebastian Janikowski with a 4-year, $16-million contract extension.
Yep, a kicker for $16 million.
That got me to thinking: Who are the NFL’s other most overpaid players? The following guys come to mind.
JAKE DELHOMME
The Panthers signed Delhomme to a three-year deal with $19 million guaranteed. He will be gone by next month when a $3.5 million roster bonus is supposed to kick in.
ROY WILLIAMS
Dallas brought him in for three draft choices (a 1st, 3rd, and a 6th) then signed him to a contract extension through 2014. Roy was signed to a deal that guaranteed him $26 million. His numbers in 2009: 38 catches for 596 yards and seven touchdowns. Unacceptable.
JAVON WALKER
Before the Janikowski debacle, Walker signed a six-year, $55 mmillion deal with an $11 million signing bonus with the Raiders. After playing in a Pro Bowl in 2004, he’s not even starting on a bad football team.
ALBERT HAYNESWORTH
Haynesworth was a beast when was hungry for a big contract. But now that he’s signed that seven-year deal with a record $41 million guaranteed, you want to see more plays and that’s difficult at defensive tackle.
